Gearing up for summer travel, American Express and its Hilton co-branded cards are offering sign-up bonuses with lots of zeroes for new cardholders. And Hilton has added new options to its Honors rewards program.

First, the cards and the bonuses:

Rewards for all spending

With the Hilton Honors American Express Card, you earn 7 points per dollar spent at Hilton properties, 5 points per dollar at U.S. restaurants, U.S. supermarkets and U.S. gas stations, and 3 points per dollar on all other purchases. The annual fee is $0. Terms apply.

The Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express pumps up those rewards: You earn 12 points per dollar at Hilton properties, 6 points per dollar at U.S. restaurants, U.S. supermarkets and U.S. gas stations, and 3 points per dollar on all other spending. The annual fee is $75. Terms apply.

That’s a lot of points per dollar. But keep in mind that NerdWallet values Hilton Honors reward program points at 0.5 cent apiece when redeemed. That’s below the industry standard of 1 cent per point.

Bring your friends

All the goodies aren’t only for new members. Hilton Honors American Express Card cardholders can earn 20,000 Hilton Honors points for each referral that results in a new account. Current Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express cardholders can earn 25,000 Hilton Honors points for such referrals.

Hilton Honors is also introducing new ways to redeem rewards. Cardholders can combine points and cash to pay for free nights with no blackout dates. In addition, members can pool points with friends and family to earn rewards faster. Later this summer, members will be able to use points for purchases at Amazon.com.

All information about the Hilton Honors American Express Card and the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express has been collected independently by NerdWallet. These cards are no longer available through NerdWallet.
