Deserve cardholders are getting a few upgrades in time for the back-to-school season, and they’re not all aimed solely at students.
The startup company has launched a mobile app for iOS and Android. Previously, cardholders had to manage their credit cards via Deserve’s mobile-optimized website.

Cardholders can log in with their same account information. The iOS version also offers the option of logging in with Apple Face ID for added security. The app provides a way to manage your account and a financial literacy section with videos and blogs aimed at sharpening your credit knowledge.
Cardholders also get the following new perks, depending on eligibility:
- A discount at T-Mobile: Receive $100 off a new T-Mobile smartphone or tablet purchased with the Deserve® EDU Mastercard for Students.
- Mastercard cell phone insurance: Get up to $600 in coverage for a stolen or damaged cell phone when you use a Deserve card to pay your monthly cell phone bill.
- A statement credit for renters or homeowners insurance: Earn a one-time $10 statement credit when you use a Deserve card to pay for three consecutive monthly Lemonade insurance payments.
- A discount at Feather: Take $100 off your first month’s rental when you use a Deserve card to rent furniture and use the promo code DESERVE100.
These perks will add to the cards’ existing Mastercard benefits that include car rental coverage, extended warranty protection and price protection, among others.

“We’re another step closer to fulfilling our mission of expanding access to fair credit to all deserving, yet underserved populations,” said Kalpesh Kapadia, CEO and founder of Deserve, in a news release.
Deserve, formerly known as SelfScore, previously issued credit cards only to international students who didn’t fit the mold for traditional lending based on FICO scores. In October 2017, Deserve upgraded credit cards and launched new products for all students and employed individuals with limited or no credit histories.
