The U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card is no slouch when it comes to earning big rewards, which is why it’s one of the Nerds’ favorites. And now, this hot little number is easier to get your hands on than ever before.

Take a look at the details below for everything you need to know about this first-rate card.

The U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card is now available online

For most of its time on the market, applications for the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card were only accepted in U.S. Bank branches. Now, consumers are able to apply for this card online.

This might not seem like big news in the 21st century, but trust us, it is. Despite the card’s value, there has been an accessibility issue associated with the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card for a long time. U.S. Bank branches are scarce in some parts of the country, so getting the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card used to be a major hassle for large swaths of the population.

Now that a major barrier to applying has been removed, there’s no reason not to take advantage of everything it has to offer — if 5% rewards is what you’re after.

Why we love the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card

There are several credit cards that earn 5% cash back in rotating quarterly bonus categories. But the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card puts a twist on this feature that makes it stand out from the crowd: Cardholders choose the two categories they want to earn 5% cash back in every quarter from a list of options.

Here are just a few examples of 5% bonus retailers that consumers can select from, as of April 2, 2015:

  • Department stores
  • Electronics stores
  • Bookstores
  • Gyms/fitness centers
  • Cell phone

Nerd note: Keep in mind that 5% cash back is limited to the first $2,000 in combined bonus category spending per quarter. Also, U.S. Bank may change the available 5% bonus categories from time to time, so don’t get too attached to the ones that are currently available.

Racking up extra rewards with the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card doesn’t stop there. Cardholders will also be able to pick one bonus category to earn 2% cash back in each quarter, too. As of April 2015, the three 2% bonus merchants are:

  • Gas stations
  • Restaurants
  • Grocery stores

Beyond that, you’ll earn 1% cash back on all other purchases with the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card. There’s no limit to the total cash back you’re able to earn, and rewards can be redeemed in any amount.

We should also mention that you’ll get a signup bonus, too: $150 bonus after spending $500 in eligible net purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. Since its $0, it’s definitely a cost-conscious choice for earning big bucks on every swipe.

Should you get the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card?

This card is probably for you if you’re interested in earning 5% cash back, but your spending doesn’t align with the bonus categories typically offered by the Chase Freedom® or the Discover it® Cash Back.

In other words, the U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® Card is terrific if you’d rather adjust your card to your spending than adjust your spending to your card. The Nerds think it’s a good deal for consumers, and expect that applying for this card means making a great choice.
