    The bottom line:

The NBKC Everything Account combines checking and savings features in one account. The Everything Account comes with a solid interest rate of 1.50% and no monthly fees or minimum balance requirement to earn interest. NBKC also offers certificates of deposit and money market accounts with decent interest rates.

NBKC belongs to the MoneyPass network, which offers free use of 34,000 ATMs. Though NBKC’s ATM network is large, as a primarily online bank its branch network is very small, with only four available in the Kansas City area. NBKC’s customer service phone line is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST.

NBKC offers a couple of online services for financial management, including features called Savings Goals and Financial Snapshot, both of which help customers manage their money.

Best for: Online banking customers who want the convenience of free checking, high-yield savings, and budgeting tools all in one account and won’t need support on weekends or in person.

    Methodology

NerdWallet’s overall ratings for banks and credit unions are weighted averages of several categories: checking, savings, certificates of deposit or credit union share certificates, banking experience and overdraft fees. Factors we consider, depending on the category, include rates and fees, ATM and branch access, account features and limits, user-facing technology, customer service and innovation. The stars represent ratings from poor (one star) to excellent (five stars). Ratings are rounded to the nearest half-star.
