Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money.
If you're someone who is always out on the town at events — whether they’re sporting events, concerts or theater performances — then here's a deal for you. An Americans Airlines partnership with ticket resale company Vivid Seats allows you to earn bonus AAdvantage miles when you purchase tickets.
By booking tickets through an American Airlines partner page on the Vivid seats website, you’ll earn 1 AAdvantage mile per dollar spent on your ticket purchases.
There are dozens of ways to earn AAdvantage miles. You can earn American Airlines AAdvantage miles when you fly, or by paying with an American Airlines-branded credit card. You can buy stuff with shopping partners, or even accumulate a few points by taking surveys. But — assuming that you’d otherwise purchase tickets through Vivid Seats anyway — this way is one of the best to earn extra miles. Here’s how to make it happen.
How to earn miles through American’s Vivid Seats partnership
Through the new partnership, you’ll earn 1 AAdvantage miles per dollar spent on event tickets, excluding taxes, fees and insurance products. Here’s how to earn the miles:
Navigate to american.vividseats.com.
Use the search tool to find the event you want to attend. You can search by words like team name, artist or venue.
Once you’ve found your event, you’ll be directed to an interactive seat map that lets you choose from available seats. That page will also display the cost, as well as how many miles you’ll earn.
At checkout, you’ll need to enter your AAdvantage member number, along with your other checkout details like email and payment information.
While this is a great way to earn miles, don’t count on using this method to earn American Airlines elite status. Miles earned through VividSeats typically do not count toward elite-status qualification or AAdvantage Million Miler status.
What kind of events can I attend with Vivid Seats?
Vivid Seats is a Chicago-based tech company that operates as an online marketplace for tickets to live sports, concerts and theater events. Events vary all the time, but they can run the gamut from “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” for theater or Potter buffs to most major NBA, NFL and MLB games for sports fans. Kids might delight in Disney on Ice tickets, while music fans can see everything from Andrea Bocelli to Justin Bieber.
All tickets listed on VividSeats come from either verified ticket resellers or pre-screened individuals. That said, Vivid Seats ticket purchases carry a 100% buyer guarantee, meaning VividSeats guarantees your financial transaction will be safe and secure, and that you’ll receive accurate, valid tickets — delivered to you before the event.
VividSeats promises a customer service team to handle questions by phone or email. The VividSeats customer service number is 1-866-970-3269. Or, it can be reached via email at [email protected].
As far as how much tickets cost? It varies. Sometimes you’ll find deals from people looking to offload tickets to events they can no longer attend. For events in high demand, you might be able to use VividSeats to score that coveted entry — for a big markup from a reseller. Since tickets are priced according to market value (meaning supply and demand), expect to see some tickets at higher or lower than their face value, depending on the event.
Vivid Seats and American Airlines
If you’re planning to attend a show or game anytime soon, there’s no reason not to check out this chance to earn travel rewards at the same time. And remember: You can rev up those earnings by using an American Airlines-branded credit card, like the AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard® or the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®, for even more miles earning.
You’ll be on your next American Airlines reward flight that much faster — perhaps to an event booked through VividSeats itself.
