Lexington Doc Prep LLC and related companies agreed to pay a fine and make refunds in Wyoming in 2016. The Wyoming attorney general alleged that the company violated state law by charging fees for student debt consolidation services and gave consumers the false impression that it could provide legal services.

Other companies named along with owner Daniel Meeler in the complaint were Lexington Consumer Advocacy LLC and Lexington, Feldman & Stern LLC.

Enforcement actions: Lexington Doc Prep and related companies agreed to pay a $10,000 fine to the state of Wyoming and fully refund all its customers. The company admitted no liability under the agreement.

The companies also agreed not to offer legal advice about consumer debt unless specific criteria were met, such as having written representation agreements in place with attorneys licensed to practice law in a customer’s locale.

The Wyoming settlement left the companies free to operate in any other state.
