Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. Citizens Bank is no longer originating personal loans, though it still services its existing loans, according to a company spokesperson.

Previously, Citizens Bank offered personal loans ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 for borrowers with good credit. These loans included a discount for setting up autopay, and the option to add a co-signer to your application.

If you were considering a loan from Citizens, there are alternatives.

Alternatives to Citizens Bank

Banks, online lenders and credit unions all offer personal loans to borrowers with good credit.

Banks

Banks typically provide competitive rates to borrowers with good and excellent credit (690 FICO or higher) and offer a wide range of loan amounts.

Wells Fargo: Wells Fargo offers personal loans with minimal fees, multiple terms and wide-ranging loan amounts. You don't need to be a customer of Wells Fargo to apply, though existing customers will see the most perks, including a rate discount. Loans range from $3,000 to $100,000, and the lender offers the option to add a co-borrower.

TD Bank: TD Bank’s personal loans are available to borrowers who live in 15 East Coast states and Washington, D.C. You don't need a TD account to apply, and loan amounts range from $2,000 to $15,000.

Discover: Discover offers personal loans ranging from $2,500 to $35,000. As an online bank, its application and approval process is completely digital. However, borrowers will need excellent credit (720 FICO or higher) to qualify.

Credit unions

Credit unions offer flexible terms and low rates, particularly for borrowers who have fair or bad credit (689 FICO or lower). To apply for a loan at a credit union, you first need to become a member.

Alliant: Unlike other credit unions, Alliant’s membership requirements are broad, and almost anyone can become a member. Its personal loans range from $1,000 to $50,000, and the lender can fund loans the same day you’re approved.

First Tech: First Tech serves tech companies and their employees with personal loans ranging from $500 to $50,000 and repayment terms between two and seven years.

Navy Fed: Navy Fed personal loans are available only to existing Navy Federal members, which include military members, their families and Department of Defense civilians. Loan amounts range from $250 to $50,000.

How to compare lenders

The best way to compare personal loan lenders is by pre-qualifying. Pre-qualifying allows you to check your potential rate, loan amount and term without risking a hard credit check, which can temporarily knock a few points off your credit score.

Many lenders allow you to pre-qualify, though it's particularly common among online lenders. NerdWallet lets you pre-qualify with multiple online lenders at once with no risk to your credit score.
