The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card turns heads with a unique perk for frequent shoppers: Make 20 or more purchases in a billing period, and you’ll automatically earn 20% more points on all those purchases. The card also offers a $0 annual fee, valuable ways to use and earn Membership Rewards and 2x points when you use the card at U.S. supermarkets — but the benefits don’t stop there. Terms apply.
Here’s a quick overview of both the well-known and underrated reasons why the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card might be the right card for you.
The well-known reasons
20% more points when you make 20 or more purchases in a billing period.
$0 annual fee.
2x points at U.S. supermarkets.
1x points on other eligible purchases.
The underrated reasons
Easy-to-earn welcome bonus
Some credit cards require a minimum spend of $2,000, $3,000 or even $4,000 in the first three months to earn a pile of bonus points. For spenders who strive to pay off their balances in full every month, those high minimum spends can be a deal-breaker. The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card offers an alternative welcome bonus: Earn 10,000 Membership Rewards® Points after you use your new Card to make $1,000 in purchases in your first 3 months. Terms Apply.
That’s not a lot of points compared to pricier cards, but it gives small spenders a head start on earning travel rewards.
2X points when you purchase travel through AmEx
Get 2 points per dollar when you use your card to pay for travel booked through American Express. Terms apply. Because Membership Rewards points are worth between 0.5 and 1 cent each, this is akin to getting a small discount on your travel purchases.
Do a quick cost comparison first. If you can find a better airfare or hotel rate outside of AmEx’s travel booking portal, it’s probably not worth the 2 points you’ll earn booking through AmEx. You’ll still earn 1 point per dollar on travel bookings purchased directly through the airline, hotel or other travel provider when you use your card.
Multiple ways to use your points for travel
Beyond earning more points through the aforementioned American Express travel booking portal, you can also easily transfer your points to multiple airline and hotel loyalty programs at various ratios for free.
Transfer your AmEx points to airline programs like Delta, Air France, Virgin Atlantic, Qantas and Iberia airlines at a 1:1 ratio. This perk can save you miles overall by allowing you to pick the most optimal redemption price for every flight.
For instance, if you want to fly a specific route on Delta, you can review the number of points that flight costs in the AmEx portal before cross checking against the number of SkyMiles points it costs on Delta’s website. If the latter requires fewer miles, simply transfer your points from AmEx to your SkyMiles account and book there. There is no charge.
American Express Membership Rewards can also transfer into the loyalty programs of three hotel groups:

Access to AmEx offers
If you have the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card, you can access limited-time AmEx Offers via your card that can save you money or earn you even more points.
There’s no telling what deals you'll see. Some recent offers included $15 back on a $49 or higher purchase from Chewy.com, $5 back when you spend $8 or more with SiriusXM radio and $20 back on a $100 purchase from Anthropologie — just a few of the more than 100 offers seen that week.

Redemption offers for gift cards, merchandise or entertainment
If you feel more like shopping than taking a trip, the points you earn with the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card are good for more than just travel. You can also redeem them for high-end merchandise, gift cards and entertainment options.
Car rental loss and damage insurance
It’s not uncommon for an agent to offer an insurance add-on to your overall purchase when renting a car. Unfortunately, that coverage can cost $10 a day or more — which adds up fast. Instead, book with this card and enjoy the car rental loss and damage insurance benefit that comes with the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card. If your rental car is damaged or stolen, you’re covered for up to $50,000. Terms apply.
But know the limits of this insurance. It provides secondary coverage, meaning it applies where your regular car insurance falls short. What’s more, you’re not covered for certain types of vehicles, like cargo vans, vans that seat more than eight passengers, motorcycles and off-road vehicles. In short: Read the fine print.

The bottom line
With a 20% points bonus every month you make more than 20 purchases, the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card is great for people who will use it often. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot. Earning 2 points per dollar at U.S. supermarkets, for example, gives you even more incentive to make this your go-to card for small everyday purchases. Opportunities to save money with AmEx Offers, two ways to redeem points for travel and a chance to say no to pricey rental car insurance help make this card a good option for cost-conscious types.
