Keep it simple
Your friends likely won’t expect you to go all out. Splurge on one item, such as a delicious pumpkin pie or a special bottle of wine, and keep the rest of the menu simple. You can’t go wrong with easy Thanksgiving sides, such as honey-glazed carrots or mashed potatoes. Save your truffled mac and cheese for another occasion.
Opt for takeout
If cooking isn’t your forte, don’t stress out about roasting a turkey or whipping up mashed potatoes for the first time. There’s no shame in buying pre-made sides from your local grocery store. You can even reserve a turkey at Whole Foods and save yourself hours of prep.
Takeout from your favorite neighborhood restaurant is also a great option. Serve it on fancy dinner plates for an added touch.
Make it a potluck
Crowdsourcing dishes is an excellent way to save money. Not only are potlucks fun and interactive, but they take the burden off the host (that’s you!). Just ask what everyone is bringing beforehand so that there won’t be five green bean casseroles.
