Direct Auto Insurance is part of the Direct General Insurance Group (not to be confused with The General), that caters primarily to high-risk drivers who can’t get car insurance elsewhere. It may suit your needs if you’ve been denied coverage due to at-fault crashes, poor credit or other issues, or you simply want to satisfy your state’s minimum liability insurance requirements.
Direct Auto & Life Insurance had more than the median number of auto insurance complaints to state regulators in 2016 for a company of its size, according to the the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. It had close to the median number of life insurance complaints.

Direct Auto Insurance’s financial strength is “fair,” according to ratings agency A.M. Best. Financial strength is important because it indicates how well an insurer can pay claims.

Direct Auto Insurance has coverage choices similar to most auto insurers, and is available in 13 states:
Customizable payments: The company lets you decide what day of the month your auto insurance bill is due, and offers several ways to pay, including text-to-pay and branded kiosks in Tennessee where customers can pay.
Direct’s life insurance
You can get term life insurance from Direct, up to $25,000. Only 6- or 12-month terms are available, but you can renew coverage.
You can renew up to two years at the same premium, and there are no medical exams for Direct’s life insurance policies. As with Direct’s auto insurance, you may have to pay a down payment when you purchase a policy.
