Macy’s One-Day Sale Guide

You’ve likely seen the commercials on TV or the advertisements in the mail — every so often, department store Macy’s touts a One-Day Sale.

But since the deal events seem to happen so frequently, how do you know if these sales are even worth shopping? From how often it happens to what kind of discounts you can expect, we have everything you need to know about the Macy’s One-Day Sale.

What is it?

The Macy’s One-Day Sale is a regularly occurring, limited-time discount promotion that happens online and in store. During these events, the retailer drops prices on a wide selection of items across a variety of departments. The store also often adds additional price cuts on top of already-discounted clearance products.

When is it?

Pinpointing the Macy’s One-Day Sale isn’t exactly a science, but from what we’ve seen in the past, shoppers can expect these sales to occur as frequently as once a month.

And despite its title, the sale doesn’t last for only one day. The “one day” from the sale’s name always falls on a Saturday, but deals typically begin with a “preview day” on Friday, so you’ll actually have two full days to take advantage of discounts.

Sign up for the retailer’s mailing list (both email and snail mail) and follow the store’s social media pages so you’re never out of the loop about when the next Macy’s One-Day Sale will be happening.

What are the deals?

A sale is only as good as its deals. So how do the deals in the One-Day Sale fare? We looked back at some recent installments of the sale to give you a taste of the discounts you can expect.

On Aug. 14 and 15 of this year, the retailer offered 25%-65% off on select styles. This included apparel (certain Nike athletic leggings were slashed by 25%) and kitchen appliances (the price of the Keurig K45 Elite Single Serve Brewer came down 40%).

The story was the same on Sept. 11 and 12. Shoppers could save on apparel, jewelry, furniture, handbags and a lot more. Plus, shipping was free on all orders over $50, and prices of clearance products were lowered by an extra 25%.

One deal that especially caught our eye was the almost $200 discount on the KitchenAid KSM105GBC 5 qt. Stand Mixer with Glass Bowl and Flex Edge Beater. Kitchen connoisseurs swooped it up for $249.99 (regularly $429.99).

Sometimes there are coupons too. Back in April, for example, shoppers could save 50%-80% storewide, plus take an extra $20 off when they spent $50 with a savings pass.

Is it worth it?

Due to the frequency and deep discounts of the One-Day Sale events, we recommend that Macy’s shoppers time purchases during them. You shouldn’t have to pay full price at the department store when a new sale is often just around the corner.

And the best news? If you miss out on a Macy’s One-Day Sale, there will likely be another one not far behind.
