Nespresso Pixie vs. Nespresso Citiz: Which Is Best for You?

Shopping, Shopping News

You may need a double shot of espresso while trying to decide which espresso machine you should buy. There are quite a few machines on the market, each offering an array of features, colors, price points and options. To help you make a decision, we compare the Nespresso Pixie and the Nespresso Citiz:

Décor-Conscious?

If you want your new espresso maker to match your kitchen perfectly, you may want to pick the Pixie over the Citiz. The Pixie comes in a full range of colors: red, titanium, indigo, brown, lime, aluminum, carmine, titan and steel blue. Meanwhile, the Citiz comes only in gray, red and black.

Environmentally Driven?

If you are concerned about the environment, you may want the Nespresso Pixie, specifically in brown or carmine: These machines’ aluminum panels are 98% recycled Nespresso capsules. The Citiz, which was featured as a great gift in the New York Times, does not feature any recycled parts.

Will It Hold (Enough) Water?

If you find it a chore to refill the water reservoir on your Nespresso machine, then you might want to go for the Nespresso Citiz over the Pixie. The Citiz features a 34-ounce water tank, as opposed to the Pixie’s tank, which holds 24 ounces. But the Pixie has a light that lets you know when you need to refill the tank, while the Citiz doesn’t.

Do You Want Froth?

If you want a frother, pick the Nespresso Citiz. The Citiz has an integrated milk frother. Nespresso didn’t incorporate a frother in the Pixie design, but you can buy a frother separately for your Pixie.

Does It Devour Power?

If you like the idea of saving energy, you may want to consider the Nespresso Pixie over its sister, the Citiz. The Pixie uses 40% less power than similar machines. The Citiz uses 1,260 watts, while the Pixie uses 1,200 watts. Another potential power-saver: The Pixie shuts off automatically after nine minutes, while the Citiz will stay on for 30 minutes before shutting down.

Does Money Matter?

If you are frugal, this might make a difference in your choice: On average, the Nespresso Pixie can be purchased for about $174.99, while the Citiz will run you upwards of $249.00. If you are looking to save money, go for the the Pixie.
