The Bottom Line: This is a strong option for a small-business owner who wants a simple travel rewards program with no fee and a relatively high rewards rate. Bigger spenders could get a better return with a different card, though.

Why you might want the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business
Simple, no-fee rewards
Unlike business travel cards that offer a slew of bonus categories that might not apply to your business (office supplies, for example, or shipping), the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business pays a flat rate of 1.5 miles per dollar spent, regardless of what you spend it on. That's a solid rate for a card with a $0 annual fee.
Also, bonus categories tend to focus only on operating expenses. Cards with such rewards usually pay a base rate of 1% on everything else, including inventory, the single biggest cash outlay for many businesses. The 1.5% flat rate on the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business applies to everything, including inventory. So if you're putting, say, $20,000 a month in inventory costs on your card, that extra 0.5% comes out to $1,200 more per year in rewards. That's enough for an entire trip.
You have two options for redeeming miles earned with the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business. With both options, miles are worth a penny apiece:
Use Capital One's travel portal to book travel using your miles.
Book travel with your card elsewhere, then use Capital One's Purchase Eraser for statement credit against your travel purchase. Unlike the points or miles in programs tied to a specific airline or hotel chain, these rewards allow you to book however you want, with no blackout dates or exclusions.
There's no minimum redemption amount for the Purchase Eraser option, and you can redeem miles for all or just part of an expense. You can get credit for a travel purchase for up to 90 days after it posts to your account.
NERD NOTE: You can also redeem miles for gift cards, cash back and more, but usually at a lower value per point, and we don't recommend it. If you expect you'll want cash back, just get a cash-back card. See options below.
introductory apr deal
Whether you have a large upcoming business expense or you expect your cash flow to be irregular for the next few months, the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business can help, offering 0% on Purchases for 9 months, and then the ongoing APR of 15.24% - 23.24% Variable APR. That gives you some time to pay off a good chunk of your balance, if not all of it, interest-free.
no foreign transaction fees
Like all Capital One cards, the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business has no foreign transaction fee. That's a definite plus if you travel internationally, and particularly if you buy inventory overseas. Many other cards charge a fee of around 3% on transactions outside the U.S. It's also a Visa card, which means you likely won't run into problems with overseas acceptance.
Why you might want a different card
bigger spenders can get more miles
If you run a small operation with low expenses, the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business is great. But if your business spends more than $1,600 per month, consider this card's "big brother," the Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business. This version charges an annual fee — $0 for the first year, then $95 — but it gives you 2 miles per dollar spent and has a much richer sign-up offer: Earn a one-time bonus of 50,000 miles – equal to $500 in travel – once you spend $4,500 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening.
The Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business pays for its annual fee with $4,750 a year in spending. At $19,000 a year, the rewards you earn will exceed those from the no-fee version, even taking into account the annual fee.
No extra rewards for travel expenses
It's nice to not have to deal with bonus categories — but if you travel a lot, it would also be nice to get a little something extra for travel purchases. The Bank of America® Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard® credit card has a lot in common with the Capital One® Spark® Miles Select for Business: a $0 annual fee, unlimited 1.5 points per dollar spent, a comparable 0% APR period and a good sign-up bonus: Earn 25,000 bonus points when you make at least $1,000 in net purchases within 60 days of your account opening which can be redeemed for a $250 statement credit towards travel purchases.
But this card also gives you 3 points per dollar on airline, hotel and car rental purchases booked through the Bank of America® Travel Center. As with the Capital One card, points are worth 1 cent apiece when redeemed for travel expenses.
a cash-back card is more flexible
If you don't want to be tied down to using your rewards only for travel, check out the Capital One® Spark® Cash Select for Business. The card offers 1.5% cash back on all purchases, a $0 annual fee and a comparable sign-up bonus: Plus, a one-time $200 cash bonus once you spend $3,000 on purchases within 3 months from account opening.
What's more, you'll get a decent introductory APR deal: 0% on Purchases for 9 months, and then the ongoing APR of 15.24% - 23.24% Variable APR.
