Chase and United Airlines recently added a new co-branded card to their lineup. The United Club℠ Infinite Card is similar to the old United Club Card that it replaced, but there are a few significant additions. With its valuable perks and added rewards, this card could be an excellent choice for the loyal United flyer who can look past the lofty annual fee of $525.

Here are the top reasons to get this new premium mileage card.

United Club membership

This benefit alone may be worth it for loyal United travelers. Cardmembers have access to over 45 United Club locations and participating Star Alliance-affiliated lounges worldwide. To use this benefit, cardmembers must fly with United or an eligible partner airline and may bring one adult guest plus a dependent child under 21 years old or two dependent children.

Earn more miles

This new card has beefed up the miles earned on United purchases — an impressive 4 miles per dollar. You’ll also earn 2 miles per dollar spent on other travel purchases and dining, including Grubhub and DoorDash delivery services. Purchases in all other categories earn 1 United MileagePlus mile per dollar spent.

Travel benefits

The United Club℠ Infinite Card is packed with travel benefits, including a $100 Global Entry/TSA Precheck application fee credit every four years. The card also comes with membership to the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program at the President’s Circle tier, which provides a 50% bonus on Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points, upgrades and exclusive offers.

Additional travel perks include no foreign transaction fees, 25% cash back on United in-flight purchases (food, beverages and Wi-Fi), two free checked bags each for the cardholder and one travel companion, and Premier Access travel services for the cardholder and travel companions.

Travel and purchase protection

In addition to the premium travel benefits, the card also comes with a long list of protections, including:

  • Trip cancellation/trip interruption insurance: Up to $10,000 per person and $20,000 per trip for covered situations.

  • Lost luggage reimbursement: Up to $3,000 for you or your immediate family member.

  • Trip delay reimbursement: Up to $500 per ticket if travel is delayed more than 12 hours or requires an overnight stay.

  • Purchase protection: Up to $10,000 per claim or $50,000 per year on new purchases for 120 days.

  • Return protection: Up to $500 per item or $1,000 per year for eligible items the store won’t take back.

  • Extended warranty protection: When you use the card to purchase items with an eligible warranty of three years or less, you get the warranty extended by an additional year.

  • Auto rental collision damage waiver: Primary rental coverage with reimbursement up to the actual cash value of the rental car (for damage or theft).

The bottom line

The new United Club℠ Infinite Card doesn’t make sense for everyone — it’s best suited for the loyal United traveler, and you must consider whether you can recoup the steep annual fee. Lounge lovers who will use the complimentary airport lounge membership (worth up to $650) will more than cover the cost of the annual fee. When you add on the other travel perks you’ll receive, the math works in favor of becoming a cardholder. So if you’re a frequent United traveler and plan to take full advantage of the features and benefits of the card, the United Club℠ Infinite Card is a solid value.
